NBA Most Valuable Player Award

National Basketball Association Most Valuable Player (MVP) is an annual National Basketball Association (NBA) award given since the 1955-1956 NBA season. Winners receive the Maurice Podoloff Trophy, named in honor of the first commissioner (then president) [a] of the NBA who served from 1946 until his retirement in 1963. MVP vote took place immediately after the regular season. Until the 1979-1980 NBA season, the MVP vote was originally selected by NBA players. However, since the 1980-81 season, the award is decided by a panel and sports broadcasters throughout the United States and Canada, each of their first choice vote for fifth place. Each first place vote worth 10 points, each second-place vote is worth seven, each third place vote is worth five, fourth-place worth three-and fifth-place worth one. Starting from 2010, one ballot was cast by fans through online voting. The player with the highest points total wins the award. Since the 1982-83 season, every player who has won the award have been playing for a team with at least 50 regular-season wins (except for Karl Malone in 1998-99 lockout season-short, where the regular season only 50 games long).
Farmers Hall of Kareem Abdul-Jabbar won the award six times. Both Bill Russell and Michael Jordan won the award five times while Wilt Chamberlain won the award four times in his career. Hall of Fame player Moses Malone, Larry Bird and Magic Johnson each won the award three times, while Bob Pettit, Karl Malone, Tim Duncan, Steve Nash and LeBron James have each won twice. The most recent winner was LeBron James, who received 116 of 123 first place votes. Only two novice has won awards: Wilt Chamberlain in the 1959-60 season and Wes Unseld in the 1968-69 season  Hakeem Olajuwon of Nigeria [c], Duncan from the U.S. Virgin Islands , Nash from Canada.  and Dirk Nowitzki of Germany is the only MVP winner who was not raised in the United States. Duncan is an American citizen, but regarded as an international player by the NBA because he was not born in one of the fifty states or Washington, DC
